Livelihoods & Food Security
AMRDO has achieved remarkable outcomes through its Early Recovery Program for flood affected families in the targeted area. It is observed that through the ‘Cash for Work’ program, the vulnerable poor rural communities have been enabled to purchase essential daily grocery provisions and medicines. After returning back of IDP’s from the temporary camps, shelters to their native settlements, the communities were in a total economic and livelihood crunch in meeting their routine living costs of food, groceries and medicines in the transitional phase of yielded crops between the cultivating and harvesting period.

The cash for work not only provided them an alternate opportunity of livelihood at their door step but the vulnerable communities also felt proud of earning money against their services as their self dignity has improved.

In addition to this, the involvement of the local communities in the form of Community Organizations (COs) has provided a platform to the rural communities to become united, more organized and resolve their development constraints in a more determined way. The communities have not only reflected their feelings of the vital roles being played in the ER project but they are reported to have their level of decision making and confidence level improved.
